Name of Group: Manick Sorcar Productions
Name of Performance: Flames of Fusion
Choreographer: Piya and Payal Sorcar
Bio: With authentic Indian costumes interwoven with stylistic
dancing techniques, these dancers will perform items spanning the Indian
subcontinent and will transport you into the magical world of India.
Manick
Sorcar, the director of this performance, is a world-renowned producer
and animator. Through his Denver based company, Manick Sorcar Productions,
he has produced and directed many award winning children's videos and
dance performances. His troupe has performed across the U.S. with a vision
of spreading awareness about diversity. Included in his troupe are his
daughters Piya and Payal who choreograph all the performance items.

Jr. Wahines
Name of performance: Polynesian Dance
Bio:The JR. Wahines is a group of young professional dancers from
7 to 13 years old, who candemonstrate the art of Polynesian dancing. The
Jr. Wahines is an affiliate of Polynesia-Pacifica Foundation of Colorado
- the only source of the Polynesian culture in our state. The group has
performed at McNichols Arena, 1st Night Colorado, People's Fair, Taste
of CO, Parade of Lights, Kindred Spirits Day, Norwest Culturefest, Passport
to Asia, Asian Pacific Film Festival, and many more. This group performs
for luaus and other private and school functions.

Name of Group: Shaolin Hung Mei Gong Fu Association
Name of Performance: GongFu (1:05 - 1:15) and Lion Dance (1:50
- 2:15)
Bio: The Shaolin Hung Mei Kung Fu Association is a Boulder based
non-profit organization whose core mission is the teaching of the history,
philosophies, theories, culture and martial aspects of Shaolin Hung Mei,
a traditional Chinese martial arts system. In honor of the classic way
of structuring such a school, there are no fees for the classes.
Although
learning the martial aspects of the style of Hung Mei is at the core of
the school's structure, tradition, history and philosophy are key elements.
The organization strives to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western
ideals and people by exposing the greater Boulder/Denver community to
a multitude of Chinese traditions. Its own student body exemplifies the
successful integration of these two cultures.

Name Of Group: The Wei Family Acrobat
Name of Performance: Chinese Acrobats
Bio: Visiting from Atlanta are three award winning acrobats. Born
in China, Wei Hong Juan, Wei Hong Quan and Wei Jia have gone through rigorous
training from an early age. This type of performance requires years of
dedication, practice and intense strength in order to accurately depict
this art form. The group has been on many professional tours around the
world.

Name of Performance: Lion Dance
Bio: The Shaolin Hung Mei Kung Fu Association is a Boulder based,
Colorado state non-profit organization whose core mission is the teaching

Shaolin Hung Mei, a traditional Chinese martial arts system. In honor

Name of Group: Philippine Rondalla of Denver
Name of Performance: Musical Favorites
Bio: The Philippine Rondalla of Denver, under the direction of
Josefina (Pepita) Tuason, is an instrumental group formed in 1997 for
the purpose of preserving and promoting Philippine music and musical traditions.
The instruments used include bandurrias, mandolins, octavinas, guitars,
bass and percussion. The Philippine Rondalla has developed into a highly
visible music group in the Filipino community in Colorado, with one CD
to its name and another, a Christmas album, in the works.

Name of Group: The Korean Senior Citizen's Association
Name of Performance: Nong-AK (Farmer's Dance)
Bio: Korean Senior Citizens Association of Colorado has approximately
80 seniors at the age between 55 and 95. They get together every Saturday.
The group, Farmer's Folk Band(Nong-Ak-Tae) consists of 20 members from
the Association. NONG-AK is an instrumental music of peasants to celebrate
the harvest in the fall. It is one of the Korean traditional music played
with various instruments.

Name of Group: Gamelan Tunas Mekar
Name of Performance: Music of Bali, Indonesia
Bio: Gamelan Tunas Mekar is a Colorado-based, all-volunteer, non-profit
community orchestra that performs the indigenous music of the island of
Bali, Indonesia. The percussive instruments include gongs, drums and metallophones,
as well as flutes to accentuate the melodies. Modeled after typical village
groups found throughout Bali, and learning by traditional methods directly
from Balinese teachers, Tunas Mekar provides Colorado audiences with an
authentic glimpse of one of the world's most fascinating cultures.

Name of Group: Denver Taiko
Name of Performance: Taiko
Bio: Taiko is more than just rhythms and hitting a drum, it is
about creating a connection between the drummer and drum, and the players
and audience. Denver Taiko is one of the oldest taiko drum groups in the
United States. Started in 1976, this year Denver Taiko celebrates its
25th anniversary. The group is made up of 3rd and 4th generation Japanese
Americans who are expressing their cultural heritage. The group is based
out of Denver Buddhist Temple and practices twice a week eleven months
out of the year. Denver Taiko has performed across the country. Today,
Denver Taiko strives to share its love of this art form and expose people
to the old and the new beat of cultural expression.

Name of Group: Chinese Language School
Name of Performance: Ribbon Dance, Chinese YO-UO, silver Plate
Dance, Baton Dance
Choreographer: Christina Yeh
Bio: Colorado Chinese Language School (CCLS) teaches children how
to listen, speak, read, and write in Chinese. The traditions of Chinese
culture are also emphasized through the school. Christina Yeh, the dance
instructor, uses various dance forms as a mode of expression to demonstrate
many Chinese traditions. Over the years she has worked with many children
and has taught them to showcase Chinese culture and Chinese tradition
in many ways. CCLS students have also actively participated in several
cultural functions.

Name of Group: Purnima Voria
Name of Performance: Glimpse of India
Bio: Glimpse of India showcases East Indian culture through various
diversity programs to bring cultural awareness, understanding and tolerance
among people. Purnima Voria, the president of Glimpse of India, has presented
dances from around the world for 24 years. She has appeared live on television
to showcase diversity through presentations on Indian culture, Indian
vegetarian and non-vegetarian cooking, Indian dances and music. She has
helped organize events like CELEBRATE INDIA 2000, CELEBRATE ASIA 2001,INDIA
EARTHQUAKE RELIEF FUND DRIVE to name a few.

Name of Group: Denver Chinese Culture Center
Name of Performance: Chinese CHI-PAO Fashion Show
Bio: The Chinese Lady's Chi-Pao fashion show will portray changing
styles from the beginning of the Republican period (1912) to the present.
The Chi-Pao is a female dress with distinctive Chinese features. Its neck
is high, collar closed, and its sleeves may be short, medium or full length.
It can be worn either on casual or formal occasions and creates an impression
of simple, quiet charm, elegancy and neatness. Whether one wears the long
formal style or the sensuous mini dress, the Chi-Pao always accentuates
the beauty of the feminine figure.
