Kazuo Matsui re-signs with Colorado Rockies

MLB.com reports 35-year-old second baseman signs minor-league contract with Rox

DENVER – Kazuo Matsui signed a minor-league contract on May 24 to rejoin the Colorado Rockies as long as he passes a physical on Tuesday, according to MLB.com.

 

Matsui will join the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, the Rockies' Triple-A affiliate, according to the story. As of press time, the Rockies have yet to make an official announcement.

 

The 35-year-old second baseman was released on May 19 after batting .141 with one RBI in 27 games with the Houston Astros this season.

 

KazMat had played with Colorado in 2006 and 2007 after being traded from the New York Mets in June 2006. In his two years with the Rockies, he hit .300 with 40 stolen bases. He batted .304 with eight RBIs and a memorable grand-slam home run in game two of the National League Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
